Nha Trang proposed plan to welcome international cruise ships

Regarding the fact that shipping lines have canceled a series of international cruises bringing tourists to Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism has just made a proposal to resolve the problem.

According to the Department of Tourism of Khanh Hoa province, in the past 2 years, the activities of welcoming and serving international cruise tourists to Nha Trang - Khanh Hoa have increased sharply.

In 2023, Khanh Hoa welcomes 25 international cruise ships with 45,874 tourists from many countries coming ashore for sightseeing.

In the first 6 months of this year, 27 international cruise ships with 55,516 tourists were welcomed.

It is expected that in the last 3 months of this year, 17 more international cruise ships will register to dock at Nha Trang port.

However, on September 20, the company that owns Nha Trang port announced that it would immediately "cancel all registered plans and temporarily stop receiving international passenger ships from September 20, 2024, to ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles, to minimize possible unfortunate incidents and to allow for repairs."

According to the Khanh Hoa Department of Tourism, the closure of the entire Nha Trang port has caused many international cruise lines to begin canceling their scheduled trips to Nha Trang. A few cruise lines are working to bring passengers to Cam Ranh International Port.

Among them, Hai Dang Nha Trang Maritime Agency Company Limited announced that it had canceled receiving 13/17 international cruise ships, with about 32,000 tourists from other countries registered to travel to Nha Trang.

Thien Y Maritime Transport Services Co., Ltd. (HCMC, with a branch in Nha Trang) is planning to cancel all sea voyages in 2025 as there is no alternative to receiving ships at Nha Trang port.

To resolve the above difficulties for businesses, according to the Department of Tourism, on October 9, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province sent a document to the Naval Region 4 Command to support the reception and service of international ships arriving at Cam Ranh international port .

The Department of Tourism has proposed that the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee request Tan Cang Cam Ranh Company to work with related businesses to agree on receiving international guests and have appropriate fees, in order to provide maximum support for businesses to receive international ships at Cam Ranh International Port.

The Department also recommends that the province direct the Department of Transport to preside over and guide Ana Marina Nha Trang Joint Stock Company to contact competent authorities to survey and announce a new anchorage area near Ana Marina port (in the north of Nha Trang Bay, in Vinh Hoa ward) in accordance with the provisions of law, in order to create favorable conditions for receiving and serving international ships in this area.

In addition, according to the proposal of the enterprise, the Department of Tourism has proposed the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province to direct the Department of Transport to preside over and coordinate with the Nha Trang Maritime Port Authority, Nha Trang City People's Committee and related units to study and survey the Nha Trang tourist wharf (at Hon Ro) and areas that can receive tenders from international ships anchored outside the port to pick up tourists, while waiting for the announcement of a new anchorage area near the Ana Marina Nha Trang port area.

According to the leader of a shipping agency company in Nha Trang, each tender of international cruise ships can carry 110-120 tourists/transfer trip from the cruise ship must anchor at sea outside the port to get to shore. The time for each international cruise ship to dock at Nha Trang port is about 8-10 hours.

The number of passengers on each canceled cruise ship to Nha Trang was the highest at 4,000 people, the lowest at 800 people, most of the registered ships had from 2,000 - 2,800 tourists/trip.
